In the last post, I laid out the PURPOSE of the Dream Tour.
The WAY we do the Dream Tour is as important as the PURPOSE.
The WAY is based on principles from Luke 10. There are three parts to the chapter:
-
Jesus Sends Out 72 Disciples
-
The Good Samaritan
-
The Story of Mary and Martha
SENT OUT
Jesus sent out the 72 disciples to the cities he was about to visit himself. He laid out lots of specifics about how it was to go down. These are the big concepts we use for the Dream Tour:
Two by Two – We travel in small groups. Ideally, the group should fit with all their gear in one car.
Pray for the Laborers – I think of dreamers as the laborers Jesus was talking about. We need more dreamers. We need them to step up and take action. We pray for dreamers…a lot.
Without Moneybag -We go out without all the money we need and trust God for the rest. We don’t ask for money along the way. We purposely leave a “gap” between what we need and what we have and watch how God fills it. It’s pretty incredible how he does it too! For the fall tour, we left with a full tank of gas and $300 – 6 weeks and 6,500 miles later, I came home with $300 and some great stories.
Without Knapsack -We travel light – usually not much more than a backpack.
Without Sandal – We leave our preconceived expectations about what the journey is supposed to look like at home. We don’t expect people to walk in our shoes. We meet them where they are.
Peace and Healing to this House – We stay in people’s homes whenever possible. Our goal is to bring peace, healing, and encouragement. “Heal the sick in it and say to them, ‘The kingdom of God has come near to you.’ ” vs. 9 When we don’t have a house to stay in, we tent camp.
Return with Joy – Joy is definitely one of the main by-products of a Luke 10 journey. We have to completely depend on God. We have to completely leave our comfort zone. It challenges us to the extreme. It challenges our faith. And God always shows up in incredible ways. We can’t help but come back with our heart bursting in a very good way.
GOOD SAMARITAN
The second part of Luke 10 is the to make sure that we are good Samaritans. We care for any one God puts in our path who is broken and bruised and needs comfort. We do not walk around them.
MARY and MARTHA
On the Dream Tour, we are very intentional about “choosing the better part.” We make sure to take time each day to “sit at the feet of Jesus.” What does that mean? We pray. We pray a lot. We take out time to be alone with God. We listen to hear his voice and allow him to direct our ways. We let him interrupt our game plan. We invite Jesus into the midst of the ministry.
For me it means getting up early each morning and spending the first 2-3 hour in prayer. Some of the most powerful experiences we’ve had on the tour have come directly from a leading that came in my prayer time. God does speak. He does direct. He is the Lord of our journey.
Yep. That’s the way we roll…

When I look around the US, I see a lot of affluence. I see a lot of comfort.
I don’t see a lot of abundance and joy.
Living Luke 10 principles helps us stop relying on affluence and comfort and rely on God instead.
Living this lifestyle provides some space for God to work. Something we rarely see in the US anymore.
The Dream Tour is here to tell you that God does show up! And often in miraculous ways that leave us breathless.
Here is one of our favorite stories of how God showed up.
It’s the perfect picture of how the PURPOSE and the WAY collided and brought joy.
